This is a really good read! Slavery has always been a topic that interests me. Why did slavers believe that they were entitled to buy and sell people? How did the slaves themselves feel?
This book is from the perspective of a young female called Isabel who was unfairly sold when her mistress died. She lands in New York in the midst of the American Revolution and is caught up in the fighting between the British and Americans.
Reading this book really makes you reflect. Why do people who are fighting for their freedom deny others their basic human rights? I got really caught up with Isabel's struggles and couldn't put this book down! (Sorry husband…)
So yes, do read it if you like historical fiction and want a different perspective on the American revolution!
